- Fewer colors significantly reduce file size but may cause banding.
- Dithering helps hide banding in gradients but adds back some file size.
- Perfect for Reddit, GitHub, and Discord upload limits.
GIF Quality Adjuster
Not all GIFs are created equal. Our Quality Adjuster gives you surgical control over the visual integrity of your animations. By adjusting the color quantization levels and the complexity of the global color table, you can make your GIFs look sharper while simultaneously shrinking their footprint. It's the perfect tool for ensuring your animations look professional on any background, from dark mode portfolios to high-contrast sites. Two sliders drive the result: the color count, which decides how large the indexed palette is, and the dithering strength, which blends neighboring colors to fake gradients the palette cannot represent. At 256 colors and low dithering, flat art stays crisp; drop toward 32 colors and banding appears in smooth skies and skin tones unless you raise the dither. A side-by-side preview then shows the original and optimized file sizes so you can see exactly what each setting bought you.

Questions People Ask
Honest answers about how this works.
What does 'Interlacing' do?
Short answer: Interlacing allows a GIF to load progressively on slow connections, appearing blurred before fully resolving.
Can I really fix pixelated GIFs?
Our tool can optimize existing pixels, but it cannot 'add' detail to a low-quality source. It's best used to maintain quality at lower weights.
Where does the re-encoding happen?
The GIF is posted to the compression endpoint, which rebuilds the palette, applies your dithering, and streams the new file back in memory. It is not stored or logged, and the side-by-side preview compares your local original against the returned result before you download.
