Optimize your Word documents for easier sharing and storage. Our Word Compressor opens the .docx package with JSZip and targets exactly one thing: the images in word/media. Basic mode re-encodes them to JPEG at quality 0.9, Recommended drops to 0.7, and Extreme goes to 0.4 while also scaling any image wider than 1200 pixels down to that limit. The archive is then repacked with maximum DEFLATE compression, while document.xml, carrying your text, styles, and layout, is copied through untouched. Everything is processed locally in your browser, ensuring your sensitive documents never leave your device. Ideal for reports, presentations, and any image-heavy Word files.

Will it change my document's layout?
No. The tool rewrites only the files inside word/media and repacks the archive; document.xml, styles, and numbering are copied through unchanged, so paragraphs, tables, fonts, and page layout stay exactly where they were. The one visible change is that images may look slightly softer at the lowest quality setting.
Which formats are supported?
Currently, we support .docx files, which are ZIP archives the tool can safely unpack and rebuild. Legacy .doc files from old versions of Word use a different binary format, so convert one to .docx first by opening it in Word and choosing Save As before uploading.
Which compression level should I choose?
Basic at quality 0.9 is nearly invisible and best for print-bound documents. Recommended at 0.7 is the sweet spot for email and sharing. Extreme, at 0.4 plus the 1200 pixel cap, is for documents that simply must fit under a strict upload limit. Start at Recommended and step down only if needed.
